View original topic: Sportsmobile interior for a 1966
Hbfish66 Mon Nov 10, 2008 8:47 pm

I just found out that my bus had a Sportsmobile interior. I was wondering if anybody had any good pictures of the interior. I have seen what is in thesamba’s archives. But I am looking for real pictures of a restored sportsmobile. I am also looking for a way to get that interior for my bus to keep it OG, anybody know where to get it?

Thanks for the help. Love reading posts about everything going on.

I have seen relatively few split window sportsmobile campers, most being 66 or 67. I think I can count them on one hand. They are not very common and usually have the interiors destroyed or missing. There's an ad in the gallery about sportsmobile's having removable interior for use as camping furniture.

Your best bet would be posting a wanted ad in the classifieds or trying to find a complete but wrecked / rusty sportsmobile camper to use as a parts bus.

Good luck, and post pictures of your progress and the completed project.

I have some pics in my gallery of my 65 Sportswagen/Sportmobile made by Travel Equipment. Not sure if that is the model interior you have.

Sportsmobile is a US company, based out of Texas. There's nothing OG about it. Your bus would have been converted after it came to the states. So "OG" would be with the interior /removed/ ;)

If you're looking for one, you basically need to hunt classifieds, ebay, craigslist, VW swap meets, etc. Post a wanted ad, too.

Also, try backtracking through the past owners of the bus and locate the owner who removed the kit....maybe you'll get lucky and it's still sitting in his attic/garage/basement/warehouse. These things still happen, but you have to look! :)

Another option would be to contact Sportsmobile and see if they'd be willing to reproduce a new interior for you (they still do camper conversions). It's possible that they have records that might lead you to the original owner, too. At least, it's worth a shot...

Good luck (and have fun!) with the hunt!

You could also just look at what it was before and make your own camper ressembling it but with your own personal "finish". 8)

Kool though that looks, I'd rather take the Jeep for offroading along with the Dormy when camping in the desert. I don't really need a kitchen/bed and all the stuff in the camper while going up and down them rocks. :?

Pyro,
I believe "Dormy" should be in bold type, correct?

Nope! Though it has some phat attributes, it isn't by a long shot! :P

Haven`t had a chance to visit yet. One of the bigwigs from the shop here came by my work and told me about it. He said someone from the company pulled up next to it in Huntington beach at a light. The owner had a for sale sign in it so he bought it. I`ll get over there eventually. He also said they had a bunch of photos and stuff too.

If you do, would you mind getting contact info and/or gather all possible info to do a spread in our club's newsletter? :?

All that sounds ultra kool! 8)
