well.... about as long as it takes for your check to clear...

Actually, like any paint job, it's all the prep work before the paint that makes the difference. Places like Scheib are cheap because they do as little of the prep as possible. So, if you do all of the body work, prep work, masking, etc yourself, and then have them just lay the paint on, I've heard their paint jobs aren't too horrible. Here's a couple of old threads about cheapo paint jobs:

See my thread for an idea of an $800 paint job.

The paint job cost $800 after I did months of body work. IMHO a cheap paint place is OK as long as they use good quality paint. The guy spraying has done a thousand cars so the technique should be good too.

Prep is where it's at. If dents, dings, rust are all fixed before hand, then Scheib, One Day, Maaco are probably fine to paint. I wouldn't want them to do the body work because whatever they do will be hidden under the paint. Better to get body work done by you or someone local, then have the paint place just do the painting.

I used 1 Day Paint. I have some reservations about the guy I dealt with there, but the painting itself I'm happy with.

If YOU prep the car the paint will stay as along as it should.
