Hello everyone....As i've seen here is many people who know much about VWs history. I need info for one of my project - how many types of speedos used on pre 67 VWs (bugs, buses, ghias, type 3 etc)?
Better will be with pics....

Depends on how detailed you want to be. Some years have shift points marked on their faces, some don't. The color of the flasher arrow changed from red to green for 1962. Up to 1960 Bugs had 80MPH as top speed with a clear plastic needle, 61-67 they were 90MPH with a solid white needle. Thats on MPH speedometers, they had metric ones too. Type 2, type 3 and type 34s evolved through that period as well.
What I'd suggest you browse through all of the numerous Owner's Manuals archived on the samba, usually a dozen or two pages into them there's a closeup of the speedometer showing what all the warning lights are for, or the suggested MPH shift ranges. They can be found here:

I need 12 different types of speedos...As it looks to me now:
1. Split
2. Oval
3. >58 bug (pre 67)
4. Lowlight Ghia
5. Next to lowlight ghia
6. Barndoor bus
7. Split bus
8. Razor
9. Early type 3
10. Next type 3
11. Baywindow
12. ???
May be some speedos in my list are the same....If someone can help with it i'll be very thanks.... |
