I have searched BeKoWa, I have searched Bernard Konner. I was looking for a site that could date the racks when they were assembled or shipped. This one came off of a 61 but don't know if was purchased at time the car was purchased. The po said it had been on the car for a while.
Any ideas????
It has a metal tag riveted to the front (centered) labeled Bernard Konner and underneath that Wandsbeck, Germany
I am in the process of a "project 56 oval", I'm just wondering if it would be more "period correct" on my 56 versus the 65 it currently calls home.

Usually BeKoWa racks are dated by the amount of wood slats it has.
Where are your slats , and how many did it have?

| It looks similar to the 22H rack that was a 4 slat. Since it has been given a modern powder coated black finish (rather than the original finish) it is not "period correct" anyway. It probably is a better fit for your nerf bar '65. |

Catalogs show the 22H as a 6 slat rack.
I am yet to see a Bekowa rack with 4 slats in a catalog. If anyone has pics of a catalog with a 4 slat rack Bekowa rack in it, please share it with us. |

Yes they did. I posted a thread on it a few years ago but no one could give me a date range when they were available. I have mine on my '61. |

Right, I was talking about this one:
....which may be 2 slats short. The overall design (minus the slats and the small stringer supports) looks similar to the rack in question.
This one also is close, with 9 slats:

It's hard to tell from the photo but does it have the thin "U" shaped channel to accept the wood? |

Can someone run down the years for the 9,10 & 11 wood slat racks.
Thanks. |

Nope to channel for the wood inserts....
Oddly enough, the rack was removed from a 61 a few years ago. The po said it had been on the car since it was purchased new.
The metal tag has a serial number stamped on it, I just wish there was a way to date the serial numbers. |

| Do you have a photo of the tag with the serial number? In an earlier post you said you took it off...scan it if you can. |

Here is another Bekowa rack without wood, it is also longer than other racks. It was originally purchased in 1958.

OK.....I found a listing in a 1962 catalog for BeKoWa racks, and it lists a 'Model 6' and a 'Model 6H'.
They were both the same size, 85 x 100 cm, the '6' was all made of steel, and the'6H' had wood slats.
This is what the catalog says:
Sowohl in Ganzstahlausführung als auch mit Holzrost (H)
which translates to:
Both all-steel construction as well as with wooden pallet

cool, 62 makes sense, this rack was supposedly purchased from VW for the 61 that "this little old lady owned"
thanks for the info

I love this rack! It even looks like it could clear a ragtop. |
