Just rebuilt a stock 1600 dp with a cam installed. I have a set of autolite plugs in it. It will sit there and idle fine and it has decent power in first but nothing in second. it just boggs down and dies. To start the motor, I have to hold the pedal to the floor and then it starts then it slowly causes the idle to rise up. Then it is kinda throttle responsive. I have the timing set, points adjusted, and the carb has been rebuilt and i think it is adjusted close. I am hitting my head against the wall on this. Any help?
Also the motor has a couple hundred miles on it since the rebuild. This is just something that started eairler this week.

Sounds like a carburetor problem. What kind of carburetor does it have on it?

what distributor? oh wait....let me guess....009?
If yes, then you most likely need to rejet the carb. Here's a great page with lots of details/explanations for the 34PICT3 and 009.

I would check for tight valves before i went any further. New stuff breaking in, things change. .006" all day long!

I mentioned heat risers, thought mine were "good enough" until the temp dropped to the mid 40's, now it won't idle at all. I also have a new motor with 400 miles on it. First thing I'd check is valves like mentioned above, I'd try another dizzy too, you never know, they go bad sometime or another.

Did you check the fuel pressure? Do you have a regulator on it? If not your probably flooding it out, no more than 2psi + or - .5psi on the 34pict 3. Check your plugs too.
