i've found out over the last 2 months that finding a running d/c for around 7k in california is very hard to do. anyone know of any for sale or good places to look? i found a couple on the east coast but i have to pay over 1k to have it shipped here.

Keep watching the Classifieds here and other on and offline sources.

In a lot of cases it's worth getting something shipped but I always advise people to see a car first before purchasing.

yea i found a 62, 4" narrowed beam with drop spindles, lowered with rgbs in back but includes new 1776 and ff tranny. the only problem is it's in tennesee and it doesn't have the truck bed skin.

kingodirtp3 Thu Nov 13, 2008 2:11 am

the guy wants 8k and i have to pay the hsipping fee, does that sound like a good deal? it has the usual rust too but he has all the panels except the bed skin to fix it.

If anyone knows what they have you're not going to get much of a DC for $7k. You have to be willing to work on it and fix it up, or come up with the $$$ for a nicer one. The other option you have is to keep waiting.

kingodirtp3 Thu Nov 13, 2008 4:10 am

yea i know the bus in Tennessee is a good deal, just gotta give up a little more money. 8k is all i can give for now. the more i wait the more i can save for a d/c though. i know i'm not going to get a show car, but at least something solid enough and reliable enough that a can drive while i work on it for the next couple years.

you could always start with some gates and work your way up

someone is selling a porsche 914 1.8 1975 Engine, does anyone know how (or even if i can) to install this in a bus?

I like he idea of the T3 or bay window hatch on the top. Even a hatch behind the seat to get to the starter and clutch. It’ll be more valuable and easier to work on to me, that’s what counts. The carpet will cover the hatches anyway.

this may seem a little out there but i was thinking of converting my soon-to-buy bus into coil over suspension, no torsion leaves or bars. if there was away to put on rack n pinion it would be even better. putting on some sway bars n camber compensators would be a must too. using a 2in narrowed beam too. the bus will be lowered too with adj beam, drop spindles and straight axle kit.

can someone tell me how much a stock US spec bumper weights? also how muh does the fiberglass ribbed bumpers weight. thinking of using the glass bumpers to safe some weight n get better mileage n performance.

i have a complete stereo setup waiting to go in my bus, 6.5 component fosgates with 1" tweets, 4way pioneer 6x9s for the rear passengers, 1 polk 12" in a box and a 300w amp and 600w amp both mtx's from the 90's(back when they were made much better than the crap out now) the 300w powers the front speakers while the 600w is for the 12. also have ipod control. pioneer headset of course, 50x4, 6.5volt RCAs. just gotta figure out how i'm going to hide it all. figure stereo under the parcle tray since it has a remote and i rarely will use the cd player. front seperates near the headlight buckets, tweets in parcel tray, 12 under rear seat, 6x9s under rear seat too(just for rear passengers not off the amp), amps under rear seat too with crossovers for the seperates, ipod dock in the parcel tray. just gotta make it clean and as far out of sight as possible. optima battery, high output altenator, and 2 amp kicker install kit. kinda sux to hide it all but beter than getting it stollen. i definately need a stroker motor to pull the extra 100lbs of stereo stuff

i dont knwo how to weld and limited funding.

maybe the double cabs all got together and had a conference after they heard about what you want to do, and they decided to go in to hiding.

When your wants are very specific, you either need to increase your budget, or expand your search. Me, I want a barndoor deluxe for $1500...

This is impossible to determine from your description and no photos.

Usual rust for me in Arizona is NONE so what rust?

Must be talking about the one that was on ebay?

I was able to pick mine up for 3k, as a "project" I had to learn to do body work, paint and mechanics. Before taking on this job I had never changed oil. No one part is perfect but I did the best I could with what I had (limited knowledge and money)

It took 5 months going down to bare metal all the way around but sitting at bulli brigade last weekend in it made it more than worth it!

I waited years for a truck. Found this for $3500 locally. VERY dry for a MI vehicle.
Currently getting bodyworked in my garage, hope to be Dove Blue by spring.

I gotta get me some of this:

grim reaper Thu Nov 13, 2008 3:29 pm

damn i paid $2000 for mine and it was missing gates, all seats, rear bumper,no glass, and did i mention the nose was ducked up. I wouldn't take anything less than $12k for it now

Shortbus Thu Nov 13, 2008 3:49 pm

Debbie Downer here... you CAN find a Double cab for $7k, however, it'll either be complete but in need of serious body work or be a nice dry shell with lots of missing parts and mechanical work needed.

You'll hear exceptions but they are just that... exceptions, rare events and getting more rare every day.

If you have somewhere to work on one, buy a project. It's only intimidating until you dive in. And there's a special bond you form with project cars that you just can't buy.

Grim you need some caps for those bows.....

keep saving your money and keep your finger on the trigger. i first saw my doublecab about 6 years ago at a show. a year later i woke up one morning and saw it for sale on the samba. i was somewhat familiar with the condition of the vehicle so i called the guy, talked a bit about some details of the truck and made the deal. 6 months later and a bit of metalwork, it rolled off the car carrier.
