Quick question. I'm at the point of replacing a lower busted hinge. I know Mamotorworks sells them - are there any other vendors? Any experience with aftermarket ones that utilize the bolt/locknut configuration instead of factory rivets?
Thanks. |

No replies? That's ok. I went ahead and got a lower hinge from MAMotorworks. It is factory VW stamped...and great quality. I was initially disappointed, when I got my order - as I had ordered the hinge to door hardware set, which one would think was 3 screws, 3 lock washers, and 3 nuts.
They sent me one wrong screw (the screw for the hinge to body which is larger), one lock washer and one nut.
I wrote an email to them, and got a call from their head of sales. They admitted to the error and promised to make it right.
I ended up going out to ACE hardware and buying 3 stainless 1/4-20 machine screws and lock nuts. Perfect fit.
Installed the hinge this week. The upper hinge pin was replaced with 2nd oversize. I hung the door 2 nights ago and it is perfect (this was a relief, as the car body is on saw horses and I had welded in a new lower hinge pillar, wheelhouse, heater channels, quarter panel. Fitment was spot on.
A few weeks ago, I did order all stainless hardware for the body-to-pan, door-to-body, and fender-to-body from Totally Stainless...1000% impressed with their hardware, and price. The actually sell a complete kit for VW restoration that includes all this and more. I basically got half of the kit to keep me going. |
