I had my drivers side bottom A piller repaired. and the shop screwed it up so bad. my doors wont close. they even painted the car with the doors like that. anyway
My question is I might want do something else with the doors. is there a thread about this? or has anyone done this to there cars? what problems came with doin this? Pictures would be great. I think Iv'e only seen a hand full of bugs over the years with funky doors. thank

Even Lambo's don't have Lambo doors anymore.
I would take it back to the shop that screwed it up and make them fix it.

Lambo doors belong on a Lambo. Unless you are 19 and wishing your Beetle is a Civic, I would stray away, but that is the opinion of a 37 year old some-what purist speaking. Ultimately this is a decision that you need to make and be happy with.

Suicide is a cool alternative and there are a ton of threads on this. Here is one: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=255711&highlight=suicide

were going to court! they had it for 18 month screwed it up stole parts. left it outside so the south florida rain filled the pans, untill the rust let it drain out.

Hell, even Lambo's don't have lambo doors now. I go suicide if you need something different.

Or maybe gull wing?

It blows. Maybe if you put the douche bags neck in the jamb and try and close it about 20 times it'll help? Probably won't hurt the car (based on your description of the current condition).

Suicide doors look great on cars that fit the bill...on a stock-ish looking Beetle I'd stick with stock doors.

Okay, I'm not sure exactly what the issue is, but I've used aluminum plates to shim the hinges on beetles with hinge problems. take out the three screws and make some simple aluminum plates to put behind the hinges. If it works, you'll fix the problem well enough to drive the car, and it won't require any paint or finishing. You can use different guages of aluminum, and even stack them to fine tune the fit.

I know, it's not REALLY fixing it, but for a driver it'll keep you going.

clubtreb Sun Nov 16, 2008 3:12 pm

I thought about shims but these doors are so fucked. the top of the door is 3 inches over the rain rail. when you try to close it, then it starts to bent the body work.

The shop was PRICELESS CLASSIC MOTORCARS in dania beach.
Do you know someone good down here.

who did the work there? Ive never had body work done but have know Rick and Seymore for years..But would NEVER leave anthing there. Ive seen parts "dissapear" off cars to get other cars running. Post a picture of your car...id love to see if i know the car your taling about...did it have a sunroof and CCC hood and W decklid?

clubtreb Sun Nov 16, 2008 5:58 pm

thats my car... rick was cool aswell as seymore. rick blew his hand apart at the begining of all this. seymore had done work before.but know one ever knew where the other was at. phone calls were never returned. I don't even know which one if any did the work. but it was shit. I was sick.

attention.... Don't ever take your car to a place that have there workers living in dead RV's!

they also sold my girlfreind a new trans and a year later I got to see it and all they did was adjust the clutch. all the bolts had 20 years of grime on them.

Yea good luck finding either one of those guys in a hurry....as far as body work goes the only guy i ever saw working on your car was this jamaican guy who was working on the body shop side...and what i saw i though he was doing a good job. If i remember correctly your roof was caved in real bad and one day i showed up and it was like it never happened. That and i remember he replaced the bumper bracket areas...but thats all i think i ever saw as far as work goes. I do remeber this...i asked about getting the roof rack that was on your bug cause it was tossed in the garbage pile and seymore said hed find out if you wanted it and let me know but never did...not sure if it was tossed out or you got it back...that and i remember you "W" glass decklid was in that 60's bus they had working on forever...so if you didnt get that back maybe the bus owner finallt picked it up with it in it. How bad could the door pillars be? Just cut them out and weld new ones in...do it yourself this time and if you mess it up it only cost you agrivation and not $$ this time. Post some picture id love to see what the car looks like as i know what it use to look like...

Damn, wtf is going on with that shop? If all that has been said is true, that's sad..and the fact that people knew it was going on? C'mon!

deluxekombi67 Mon Nov 17, 2008 6:45 pm

yea i dont know why anyone even goes there...its always agrivation to get anything done then you have a 50/50 chance of it not being right. I only go there in a last ditch effort cause ive know them since i was 16 and they have always taken pretty good care of me....but with that being said i would NEVER leave my car there with them for any length of time....to much might go missing
