  View original topic: collapsible antenna?

Anyone know of a good vintage looking, fully collapsible antenna that will work with the t3 fender? Electric would be cool but not needed, manually collapsing will do fine. Want it to pick up long range stations and be completely out of the way when taking it through the car-wash.

thanks,

Scott

It's a Hirschmann-STYLE, but not genuine. But I bought one, and it works and looks great. Ebay may have genuine, but I didn't care given their higher price.

Is stock not collapsible? I have a stock antenna, and collapses some, and more if greased.

It collapses to about 12-18", still too tall for automated car washes and vandalous teenagers. The Hirschmann-type retract nearly flush with the fender.

It depended on what the dealer installed.
VW radios were dealer installed, not factory.

Yes, but most (well, all I've seen) used the Bug antenna, or a T3 variation with a longer antenna cable. They didn't fully slide into the fender.

Back then, the dealer stocked one andtenna for both the T-3 and the bug. The bug got the the T-3 long lead.
Unless the new car buyer specified an antenna upgrade.
Someone here on the list has a power antenna inside the rear louvers.
Toby?? Is that you?

So, I should not go through the car wash? We are no longer allowed to wash our cars, and I like to wash them every week.

Red tip, Bosch or hershman. Hershman and red tips are out there. Good solid OG ones are hard to come by as the Porsche heads scoop them up and or ar willing to pay $300 for a real one.

If you realy look you can find a decent knock off that still uses the key. The key you ask?

These are bolth OG type that can go all the way down and require a small key to get back out.

I've got one of those hershman knock offs from CIP (no name brand, just came in a clear plastic bag). It started to rust (the very top part) after being left partly up over one winter here (not exposed to salt). The chrome is peeling off it even. It's pretty nice being able to sink it down almost flush with the body though. I'm glad I didn't over 10 bucks for it.

Yup. Bought it at GI Joes (now it's just called "Joes"). Had to slightly bend the inner louver to allow the antenna to pass through. Access is via the FI ECU panel.

That is a great idea! I wanted to put a C.B. in (Brother offered), but did not know how to pass the antenna. I will check into that.

Thank you! Too bad about the scrapes. :( The video is also interesting, especially the music and garage.

I listen mostly to a '70s-'90s radio station...and they play a lot of '80s music \:D/ The car is a driver so she has the scars of a used vehicle  :)
