I was noticing on this old ad, the bumper guards are painted the same color as the body. Was that just a little artistic license, or did VW ever deliver any buses with this embellishment? I am trying to decide if I like the effect or not. |

Another example. I think it's just artistic license.

Artistic license.
Weird since the rest of Bus appers pretty accurate, except for no front door glass. |

I think it looks cool on that blue commercial above. Not so sure if I like it on the red. |

| This is disturbing to me as it ruins the aesthetic of the bumper. To be more crude, this would look stupid in person. |

Personally, overriders kind of ruin the aesthetic to me. I prefer the European style bumper. |

| Today those ads would have in small legal print: "Vehicle pictured is artist conception only. Actual vehicle may differ upon delivery. Price does not include tax, title, license, or dealer prep." |

My guess is that they are just modified "European Spec" pics with overriders added by the artist later in order to "Americanize" the Buses. Note how long the trim is and that it looks like it's cut off by the bumper guard.
Also not on the Mango Bus above that it has an extra outline around where a semaphore slot would have been. Another odd detail that is unrelated is that the cargo door on the Mango Bus has no handle recess and the handle looks more like a Barndoor cargo door handle than any other handle. |

Looking at the Mango Bus again it looks to me like the wheels are 16's with painted in slots to look like 15's, kind of like some of those Wolfsburg era '55 brochures where they funkdafied a Barndoor to make it look a little newer by blending in a front roof overhang, slots in the wheels, and some had bullets painted onto them as well. Obviously artists were asked to modify old pics to show those differences. |
