HEllo I recently purchased a dune buggy with a 67 t3 ibelieve 1600 dp with solex 32pdsit carbs. I have got it running and put almost 200 miles on it. Let it warm up next day and went to back out and she started cutting out. Wemt through carbs, new points good fuel pump. NOw it sounds real good idling but give it some throttle and she dies and will not run until cold. I am new to VW and would really appreciate the help as she is a blast to drive

though not exactly what I was experiencing with my 66 Type 3 Ghia, it was similar. She would start and idle perfectly but had no power under load and would stall easily (couldn't even climb a very flat driveway).

it turned out to be a short in the brand new condensor lead. it's rare that a condensor goes bad, but their leads can be vulnerable. you might double check the lead's connection to the coil as well.

Thanks a lot!! As i stated I am very new to VW's and this is the first I have ever driven much less owned. Can you point me in the direction of the condensor lead

your best bet is getting a service manual. you should try the Haynes manual, as it will probably give you enough engine info without the expense of the Bentley one.

the condensor is mounted on the distributor. the lead is the wire (commonly green) that connects it to the coil.

Thanks I got a manual with the buggy but it is for bugs and ghia's and does not cover my carbs but did cover the condensor. Thx

I got a manual w/ the buggy however it is not correct for the engine but is general enough for help.THX

forget the Type 1 manual, it's nearly useless for Type 3 engines and will cause more harm than good. the Haynes manual is pretty cheap; trust me it will pay for itself in the long run.

Sounds like a vacuum leak. Check the nuts holding the intakes to the heads, and to the carbs themselves. Also check the condition of the balance tube hose. Since you went thru the carbs, pull the air cleaner(s), and look down the opening to see if it's dumping fuel (bad needle and seat from the rebuild kit).

Thanks for all of your help! I will check the nuts as you suggested and the balance tube. As for the looking into the carbs while it is running is a bit difficult as iy is in a dune buggy and the clearance is marginal at best. It takes some finaggiling just for the stock air cleaner

So I checked both the carb holddown nuts and intake to manifold, the air mix tube is fine. Started it idled great drove it around the block and towed it home it seems that when it warms up real good it shuts down like no fuel, went throudh aftermarket fuel pump new filter etc, Please help, someone

It has to be in the carbs. I'd guess. Better use a mirror/flashlight to see if the brass squirter tubes are squirting right?

Will try that, thanks for the help!!
