Maybe a year ago I seen a pic of a guys Thing that had the iron cross in the tail light lens. I've searched for these on google and the Samba but must not be looking hard enough. Does anyone know about these tail lights and where to find them? Or the guy who had them?

He made them himself. I think he used that light tint spray you can get at the auto store, and just made himself a template he sprayed around.

Take your lenses off the car. Clean them with soap and water real well. Dry them. Wet sand the outside using the grey scotch brite pads {similar to the green plastic pads that you do dishes with} from the bodyshop supply store using vinegar instead of water. Sand them till they are all dull. Alternatively you can just sand with 800 grit wet paper used dry. The vinegar trick removes all waxes and oils. Mask off your pattern with green, low tack, masking tape. Apply LIGHT coats of black base coat paint, until the desired darkness is achieved. Carefull it does not take much. The black areas are transparent and let light pass through. Remove the tape and apply at lease 2 coats of urethane clear coat.

If you have any old plastic lenses, any color including clear, that you want to look like new. Perform the above proceedure but leave out the color application. Sand till well scuffed, they will look unuseable, then apply the clear. They will instantly look like new.

Those lenses on my Thing are 33 years old. They are not new.

Hey thanks, and those things are really nice. Great work and it's hard to believe there that old. And thanks again for telling me how I can do it. Have a blessed day.
