I have never done anything like this but I just started to redo the interior of my 67 and when I took the carpeting out of the floor behind the rear bench seat I was shocked to see that almost the entire shelf was rotted thru. So I have found replacement for the entire section but I am not sure if this is bolt on stuff or am I going to have to cut the old one out and weld the new one in etc. Its in horrible shape and I do see a few points where it looks like there are bolts.
Anyone out there done this before? |

Bad news...
Break out the welder. The bolts you are refering to are likely the bolts which hold the rear of the car on the pan. |

Here is a good start... I know there are several other threads and links to personal "web pages" with even more detailed pics of the job/work done on several cars. Hopefully some one knows where they are and will post the links.

Cool, thx guys. I also will have to do my cross members but what is this part called I have circled. And what is the wire going up in it on each side.
Not knowing what its called makes it hard to order new.
I used someone elses pic here but its the part I need to also replace.
Also dont mind the taco lol. I work as an artist at a game company and edited this pic in that file and forgot to take it off haha..

Im not sure of the exact name of that part, ive seen people call it a Y-Tube or just rear seat heat pipe...
So far as I know nobody makes new ones, you can usually find used ones in the classifieds. When they are installed in the car they are usually wrapped in a thick carpet like stuff. The cables should go in through the front and operate the flaps inside, allowing you to reroute all heat forward... |

OK cool, So basically I just find all the edges of the [ackage tray and find the welds, dril them out, pop out the whole panal, prep and fit the new one in and re spot weld it?
When putting in a new one how exactly is it welded on again? Do you have to dril holes around the new metal and weld inside or how exactly is that process done? |
