I need to replace the glass in my fuel gauge. How does the gauge come apart? I got the speedo apart but the fuel gauge is different. I doesn't look like it threads on/off. Don't want to start prying til I know for sure..
Thanks |

you have to pry. its a pain in the butt. ive done few of them. the chrome ring usually gets messed up, hard to remove without messing it up. i recommend leaving it alone or finding another gauge.
also, the speedometers dont thread on/off. you have to pry them as well and pop off the ring, they are way easier tho. |

^x2 I just fiddled with opening a gas gauge the other day, decided to leave it be as I could tell tell the bezel was going to get jacked up removing it. I've had good luck with speedos before, I think the gas gauges are just to tight of a radius to do cleanly.
ps. BE VERY CAREFUL CLEANING THE FACE OF A SPEEDO (and prob. other guages), the printing will wipe right off. |

| I have opened fuel gauges and cleaned them up successfully and without damaging the bezel. You Have to use a dremel with a cutoff wheel and grind down the lip of the bezel that is pressed around the bottom edge. There is a peice of plastic between the chome bezel and gauge housing that you have to pick out with a dental pick and the bezel will slide off the housing. Take care and go slow the bezel can be easily cracked and the needle is very fragile. Once the insides are cleaned up you line up the curves in the bezel with the appropriate place on the housing and use some epoxy putty or jb weld to secure it. (make sure you use a clamp when gluing it back together). |
