What's the difference in calipers between late single bleeder and the newer 2 bleeder calipers?
As in, is there a size difference at all?
I found out my 73 SB has the single bleed, and not the dual bleed like it should. Now new rotors and brakes, pistons all the way in, and I need a few mm more to make it all fit. |

| Larger pistons and pads, not sure if the discs themselves changed, so you may have an incompatible set. Others who KNOW will chime in shortly... |

'72 and '73, actually had T-4/914 brakes.
The spindles are different too, as the bolt spacing on the calipers are different. Rotors are bigger also.
The dual bleeders are not the indicators. The original calipers only had one bleeder.
The replacement calipers had the dual bleeders. They did that, so they would only have to actually make one part number for both sides. |

Thanks russ, this is a strange one.
I cross referenced the #'s and it is a 914 rotor on the replacement, too (zimmerman). It is 11mm thick, and bentley says 9.5 mm thick stock. (published 1974)
All the (new) 73 bearings go in just fine into the new rotor. I have a press so that was not a problem. It looks and measures up just fine between old and new rotors, only diff is the ones that were on the car spec out just at 9mm (obviously turned).
If the bolt spacing is different on the calipers...... I guess my only option is to first identify the spindle? I'm wondering if it's a 71 or older front end on this '73. |

It could be an earlier front end on a late car.
If you want, I can go out tomorrow and measure the bolt spacing on a set of late spindles.
The wheel bearings are the same. |

You know, I would appreciate that! I did order some reman calipers for the '73. But if the spindle is different, then that's where I'm screwed. But I did have a seized piston on one side of the left, can't get it out under any pressure, so that is another problem :( |

And I'll add, worst case, I'm down for 2-3 weeks, but I miss driving her already!
Here's a pic if you are so inclined to click ;)

Ugh so much for looking this up on my accounts.
I bought a pn above that starts with 411.
I was privy to etka tonight, and the rotor starts with 311. I'll bet it's user error, and not the calipers. Maybe someone can confirm for '72 rotor. cip has the 411 listed for my model :( |

| The caliper mounting bolt spacing is 2 1/4" (center to center) for early discs, 3" on later discs. |
