| Hello guys. New here and wanted to see if anyone can help. I am restoring a euro (semiphores) 1958 bug to as orig. as possible. It currently has a 12v freeway flyer trans in it. I purchased a used split case tranny that was supposidly from a 1958 bug. When I went to swap them out, it seems the split case trans axles are longer and do not mount at the axles. What could be the issue. The split case is supposidly original and could not see someone swapping the axles on this for the longer ones since its not a great tranny that one would want to put in a newer beetle. I researched and found that the 1958 axles should be shorter. |

| should have done that first. Seems that its typical to be short a bit when installing just need to loosen the bolts a bit on the spring plate then tighten. Worried me a bit since I went back and put the freeway flyer on and it was a closer fit. Either way looks good to go. Thanks |

I don't know if this helps, but from a piece of paper I have discovered in a box:
VW Swingaxle lengths:
49-65 short "2260" 26-11/16"
66 med "2265" 27-13/16"
67-68 long "2270" 28-7/8"
No authority I can find, but I can't figure out why I would have kept it if it hadn't been pedigreed info. |
