View original topic: Gasoline in the oil, Lots of it!

Yesterday morning i went to go drive my 73 super beetle, but before i did i wanted to check the oil. I checked the dipstick and it was quite possibly as high as it could be and was not oily at all, it was gassy. So the obvious thing to say is that the fuel pump has broken and allowed this, but as i looked at my carburetor i noticed that there was a bit of fuel dripping off of it. In fact, when i took the air filter off and looked down past the choke there was a little bit of gas on the little butterfly valve for the throttle. It was parked on a hill sideways all night at a rather steep slope allowing the passenger side to be lower than the driver side. I dont know what caused this but i plan to pull the pump and test it somehow, probably replace it. And as for the carburetor i was wondering what could be the deal with it. I did recently start putting ethanol in my tank so it could have allowed a bit of junk to pass the two filters i guess and get gummed up in the carb. And of course im going to drain the oil and refill it. Any ideas as to what caused this?

That is what VW started using this valve for.
It keeps the fuel from syphoning when the car is parked on a slope.

so your saying that there is nothing wrong with my car except that it was parked on a hill? Or thats just why my carb seemed drippy. Theres still a good gallon or so of gasoline in my engine that is unexplained other than the possibly broken fuel pump.

Fuel pump diaphram or a leaky float valve in the carb, and parked on a hill.

hmmm, i should probably go roll it down from the hill, but how would i go about knowing if the float valve is stuck?

is there any issue with your accelerater pump lever on the side of the carb, touching the alternater case? Is the gas dripping out of the accel pump nozzle inside the carb? If its not your fuel pump diaphram, check the accel. pump lever, diaphram.

What is that valve called and where do you find it?

I recently had the same problem. Can anyone tell me more about this valve? How it works. How and where it is spliced in fuel line, etc.
