My deepest condolences to anyone who has lost property and more. So far no deaths are reported, let's hope it stays that way. Today the wind seems calmer.
When fierce dry winds push the flames, there is little hope for homes in the path, even stucco houses with cement tile roofs. The wind drives embers into crevices and through attic vents. Unless someone is there to chase down spot fires, the building will soon be engulfed.
I live in a spot that usually remains calm during Santa Ana wind events. However, I know how crazy it gets in the wind prone areas in and around canyons and passes. These are the places where we have seen multiple house fires.
One of yesterday's fires started in Corona, not far from Wolfsburg West. It quickly grew into a monster that has spread in four directions, and has burned down a lot of homes and apartments. It is close enough that I can see firefighting airplanes. Wow, it is quite a sight to see a DC-10 jumbo jet maneuvering low over the hills as it prepares to drop a huge load of phoscheck. Last night I could sometimes see a bright orange light glowing on the underside of the smoke clouds. At 10:30 PM all was dark and I went to bed. But when I was up at 2:30AM, the orange glow had returned. The wind had picked up somewhat. I took this photo yesterday from my front yard. Today it is much more hazy, the smoke cloud rises straight up, and I'm inside with the HEPA filter.

I'm about 3-4 miles north of where the fires are right now.

The DC-10 flew right over my house a few minutes ago. Cool. I could see the the bay doors in the belly. He was flying circles around the smoke plume.
I heard they canceled the first inaugural Pasadena Marathon this morning due to air pollution. That's not far from Highland Park. I praise my HEPA filter. Boo, wildfires. Stay safe everyone. |

| This sucks. I personaly know 4 families that had to evacuate their homes. A couple people at work too. As long as the winds stay calm we should be ok. |

Crazy. I smelled some nice BBQ that was going down in King City and I'm not even the 400 miles away from the nearest fires that you are. |

I haven't seen or smelled any signs of it here either.
I am happy to see that the threat to Hamburger Brad is much lower today. |
