Hi,
Thought the title would grab attention.
Those of you who ONLY drive older ACVW's just ignore this post.
There are many many many bogus fuel mileage enhancement devices on the market, magnets, meshes, additives, etc.
I recently read about this unit in Popular Mechanics and it had glowing reports of users increasing fuel mileage significantly, not with the use of special devices but by knowing HOW to drive.
SCAN GAUGE II
http://scangauge.com/products/
It's expensive but as a bonus it functions as an OBD II diagnosis device so that makes the price a lot more palatable for it is also a tool and can be used in multiple cars. It can also read codes and shut off the Check Engine light.
I have the adapters and programs for my Laptop to pull codes and get real time engine info but this is small and compact and is always on.
Anyone with any experience using it? I know its only for 94 or newer cars with OBD II. FYI yes, I did a search, a little chatter about it in the Vanagon and Bay Window sections but no "good" information. Just chatter about what the heck is OBD!?!
Thanks!

That's just a vacuumgauge! It doesn't fit all cars for vacuum gauges dont work on diesels.
Go to the website its so much more than just a vacuumgauge. IF you dont have obd2 than this is of no use to you at all. Amazon sells this item as well with many glowing reviews and afew not so good. If you have ever had a Check engine light come on you need this tool if you have the skills to fix cars yourself and hate paying others to do diagnosis work.

Gas is cheap now, time to get wasteful again. Thought you knew.
The scangauge is a fun little tool and does most of what it advertises well. I don't own one but have had the chance to play around with one for a few tankfuls. A friend of mine bought it to keep an eye on his intake air temp because he heats it ("hypermiling" freak  ).
It offers a lot of functionality/dollar, but you won't end up using most of the features. If you're interested enough in gas mileage to consider one, you can probably train yourself to optimize your mileage pretty well without it. $150 buys a fair amount of gas.
My best tankful was 47mpg all highway on a sohc Saturn. No scangauge. |

Hey !
Thanks for the detailed reply, 47 MPG from a Saturn is impressive! Was it all downhill with a tailwind?
I know you can get a bunch of gas for the green it costs but I oversee and repair 7 different vehicles and though I have the laptop it is cumbersome when pulling codes or test driving. I thought I'd get this unit as a more portable code puller and CE light kill tool. I'll still have the bigger laptop screen for engine firing and other information. I could also "play" with it as well in my own car, when it isn't being used to diagnose other units, to see what I could get mileage wise. I am already coaxing 34 MPG out of a 2007 Vibe with Automatic Trans w/ AC on, so am not at all disappointed. Just want to see if one can get a little bit more MPG's with the aid of electronics. Not getting into Hypermiling, just having fun.
Besides, as a shop "tool" I can justify the boss purchasing it instead of ME!
