Just picked up an '81 Caddy project. It runs and is relatively rust free. Thought I'd introduce myself as I'm sure to be asking questions in the coming weeks/months/years...

It has been lowered but I plan to put it back at stock height...too bumpy for me.

I'm hoping I can straighten the hood. If not a Rabbit hood fits...right?

I think the PO put the rear sliding window in backwards. The channel for it to slide in is on the outside and it's glued in place!

Suggestions for parts vendors stateside? I've been to the UK Caddy site.

Thanks!

a caddy is just a 4dr rabbit from the doors forward. So yes hoods, fenders, doors and everything else are interchangable.

For parts depending on what you are looking for rabbitparts.com, black forest industries and MJM autohaus are good sources that I use frequently. autohausaz.com for everything else.

Nice Caddy!! :D The slider is on the outside on those. I don't see a latch on it though. The center glass must have been replaced.

I have 4 caddies I'm trying to restore. You'll have to do some serious searching for inexpensive parts. Don't know what you paid it but you'll think you're buying another one with some of the new part costs!

Ouch! Thanks for the warning. I traded it for a non-running Vanagon. The mpg is CONSIDERABLY better than my '84 Vanagon daily driver.

Still having fun with the new toy...it's on its way to becoming a daily driver. (My Vanagon needs new heads...ouch!) Anyone know who may have the best deal on struts? I need to replace the ones on the front with stock ones and I'm working with a teacher's budget! :D

Thanks again!
