I know after hurricane katrina that was that the car could be sent to scrap.. or there are no deceased in the vehicle...

I can't believe no one has quipped "that sh*t will buff out"

Seriously, though, as a veteran of numerous October/November SoCal fires, I feel for all the folks who are losing homes and personal property.

I wonder what the car looked like Pre-Fire...I dont know about you but I would make every effort to get my oval even if it means pushing it or hooking it up to the back of my car. was this car in Sylmar or cororna?

I heard on the news that some people had only 5 minutes warning before their homes went up.

Choose where you live, but it seems that happens out there in CA every 1-3 years (not the same exact area I'm sure). Sooner or later the "it won't be in my neighborhood" rationale would wear thin.....

Kind of interesting that the VW is about the only metal standing. It was sitting in a mobil home park where all of the trailers disintgrated. Even though it is toast, it stood up to some pretty extensive heat.

There is a picture of the same oval on the front page of US Today (Monday edition)

And when you have a look at it, every alloy parts melted...

sprbxr Mon Nov 17, 2008 4:16 pm

THis was on the CNN site

It might be a candidate for one of those Patina cars.

"X" on the hood means the area has been checked for bodies of deceased.

I was down in So Cal visiting family before heading home this morning. In my Dad's local paper was an artical about a collector in Yorba Linda who got evacuated, but came back to try and get his car.
Stopped by the sheriff, when he told them it was a vintage 55 T-Bird, it said they looked the other way as he passed the roadlock.
The artical showed him standing next to his car, safe even though the guys home burned down.
Wonder if an officer would have let the owner pass if he'd told them it was an oval window VW?

thins my chance of ever owning an oval....

A little hard for me to joke and make fun of this situation. Last year we lost 25% of the homes in my town, from fire.

I personaly had to leave a two owner 1956 oval and a restored all original 1960 sunroof beetle behind. People don't believe me when I say that there was NOTHING I could do. We did get the whole family out and a 1965 hardtop deluxe bus filled up with the family memories. Once we were out there was no way back in with only one road up and down the mountain and going cross country was, well suicide.

We ended up with light smoke damage. Two blocks away every house was gone down to chimneys and rubble.
