So I've been trying to get my bus tuned up a little better. Replaced the spark plugs cause the PO put in Autolites, did the timing, point gap, etc. (In the right order, of course). The engine idles beautifully in neutral or park, but soon as I put it in to gear, it drops to nearly stalling. I've even set the idle waaaaay high, and it goes back down when I pull the lever to D. Is there a separate adjustment for the in-gear idle, or am I just supposed to shift it to neutral at stoplights?
Thanks! |

| I wonder if there's an issue in the transmission like dragging clutch or sticky valve, there's nothing on the engine to change the idle in gear. The tune up spec usually calls for idle to be set in gear but if you are getting crazy revs in neutral there must be an issue. |

| Dammit. I checked the fluid, cause that's all I really know how to do, and it's fine. I'm potentially getting what I was thinking would be a parts bus, a Westy. If there is some sort of tranny issue, how big a deal is it to swap the manual from that into my bus? |

Ryan, I'll bet i can find a 1/2 dozen things contributing to your poor idle
if you drive it home for Turkey Day :P |

Only 6? I'd guess more like 2 dozen. I really need to get a hold of some engine tin before then, or some sort of temporary fix (silver heat tape?). That and the brakes are having issues. It may have to wait till winter break to make it all the way home. We shall see.... |
