Someone posted a question regarding steering couplers. Here are a few pics of one of mine.
The last pic is from another Vanagon owner that had one fail. Luckily he was/is fine.
I'm obviously not a mechanic. And I'm NOT trying to start a panic over these parts. It's up to you what to do, so if you use this info, do so at your own risk.
One shows me bending one of mine a little in the vise. One can see just how cracked they are even though only a few cracks show up on the edge. I'm replacing all of mine (3 on my '81 w/manual steering).

| Thanks for the pics. This things do fail, and need to be replaced just as you would do brake lines or fuel lines. Not worth risking your life over. |

| Yep I can see this is another part to replace..before you are out in the middle of nowhere. Thanks for the picts confirming my concern when I saw cracks in mine. I have an 82 so mine will not be much better than the ones in the pictures. |
