View original topic: What's up with the curtains?

There is a plastic coated wire running the length of both back windows on my Westy. Is this wire supposed to be inside the bottom hem of the curtains? I can't see what other function it would have.

Thanks!

You guessed it. The wires run inside the curtain hem.

Thanks. At last something I can do that doesn't cost money!

I prefer the cable outside the hem. The curtain slides better, and I use the cable as a hold down, to tuck the curtain behind.

Uhhh, Yeah! The plastic wire is the hold down for your curtains and I have never seen one inside of them. When you tie them up with the ties, you simply tuck the bundle under the wire and they stay put. when you close the curtains, you tuck the entire curtain under the wire and you do not get any peekers whilst you get 'er done! I also use the wire to hold things in stow when I am on the road, like paper towels, cereal boxes etc...Hope that helps~

it depends on the curtain, in my 90 westy some curtains have the cable inside the hem like the one at the back of the passenger side and the one right behind the driver's seat over the sink cabinet, although most of them are outside the cable

It's suppposed to go on the outside.
Works much better that way.
At least in an early Westy.

My 87 Westy has them all outside as did my 83 Westy!

Our '87 came with the curtains loose from the plastic lines so that they were "tuckable," but after removing the curtains for cleaning and lining (with ironing board fabric so they reflect the sunlight better) we ran the lines through the hems.

Plus side: the curtains stay put better.

Minus side: the curtains are more difficult to slide open or closed and they bunch up when being moved.

We'll probably go back to the old way next time they're out.

Rare Earth magnets are best solution. Throw away all of the springy-thingys except for the ones that hold your galley cabinets open.

added multi purpose benefit: you can keep your cabinets lids open with them too
