Hi oval owners!
I have been lurking in this forum for a few years trying to learn what I can from the experts. After keeping in touch with my new ovals owner
for years he decided to let me take ownership. I am happy to say the 54
is in my garage awaiting some love. Please let me know what you think,
both poss and neg. I can tell there are many incorrect parts on the car
such as the rear apron, fenders, ignition, air filter etc. Plus side is the car
was zinc primered in Germany and the original floors and channels are
very nice. She drives and stops (slowly) please give me some input. There are going to be lots to learn. More phots in the gallery
Thanks, Volksartist

| Congrats Kevin! Let me know if there's anything you need. How far north did you have to go to get it with all that snow? The Americans are gonna think we live in igloos. :D |

Looks like November is a good month to bring home an Oval. I just brought a '55 home last weekend.

| I'd say Kevin will be going slammed on earlies, or maybe he'll do some V-Dub Engineering big brakes and big rims.... Nice to see another oval will be resurected in my neck of the woods. Let me know if you need any parts! |

Good to see another '54! A few things I noticed.....
The interior looks to be in good shape.
You do have the correct early W deck lid. 8)
Later 36hp engine
Yellow semi's, '56 and up
Overall looks really nice! |

The car was only 1.5 hr from Toronto. Saturday was mild and raining all
day. Got up Sunday and the tow dolly I rented and truck had about 3-4 inches of snow to get off!! I guess the first real snow fall off many.
I need to get out and check chassis number, engine is newer but runs really nice. Interior is staying the way it is, just cleaned up. There
is a column ignition added and a switch in the old ignition hole? There
is a german flasher aftermarket "kit" installed for the semi's and additional
blinkers added. Accessorie chrome hearts will have to stay for now, and
have to check there mounting height.
No full resto planned, just make it road worthy by spring, wife says I
need seat belts, ("your a father now") no GL wheels in the cards (been there on the ghia) but a touch of the resto cal stick.
When we test drove it I got that "stepped back in time feeling, just what I always wanted.
Thanks guys, as I get into it I will need some advise. |

Awesome find....nice Ontario Oval!
The door frame mirror in the parts pile is really neat!
Hard for me to tell from the pic, but the radio looks like a later model. The pushbuttons look too slim, like maybe '60 or newer.
Heated or not, I suspect that garage is going to receive a lot of visits!
Congrats,
H. |

Thanks H.
It is so solid because it's only been in salty Ontario for 10 years or so.
The previous owner was not interested in selling up until now because
he dragged it from Germany in a container after a three year resto.
I have his build up and finished shots to scan in and give back. I will
post a few soon, very cool senic shots. When he moved to Canada he
did not have a garage so the paint is flakey and "touched up"
The mirror was in the back seat, said to be a bit of a pain (can see the
set screws were a problem) It is an Albert. I would like to know more
about it. Is it a general purpose application or cool vw accessory that deserves to go back on??. There is no provision for a mirror on the door hinge. I dont think the German market required them? Anyone know?
Radio has a big face plate maybe 60's, Also a spare 6v-12v model

Kevin,
I love that colour! I see in your gallery that the back seat ashtray is missing its front. I never put mine in my new interior. It's yours if you want it. Keep that Albert!! I don't think I've ever seen another up here. Great job on prying it loose. The hearts do look a little high. We can measure mine.
