Since I've decided to restore my wifes bug I know that I'm going to need some kind of welder. I like to tinker around the garage and have been kicking around the idea of buying a wire fed welder anyway so does anyone have experience or suggestion to which one? I'll probably never weld anything too serious but I know I'm going to need to replace the front and rear aprons along with some molding channel. So I figure the wire has to be fairly small in gauge. So where should I start?

Thanks a bunch. I guess I should have done a search first. But thanks for the link anyway. I guess I have some reading to do.

| I got a Lincoln Mig 100HD from Home Depot for just around $400. It has a normal household plug, and will do anyy welding you need to do on your VW and a lot of other chores. |

Personally I'd step up to the next higher model since it's already got the gas hook-up, which the 100HD doesn't have. You can add it later, but it's a good bit cheaper to get already installed from the factory. Last time I checked it was about $125 for the conversion. |
