Question: after a transmission is rebuilt and put together, is it possible to make adjustments to the gears? Mainly 4th gear?
My 4th gear pops out just like the one on this video...

I was reading the Bentley shop book and it mentioned after a rebuild one might have to adjust 4th... but it's not very descriptive on where or how t do so.
Here's the link to my previous post... it's a little more descriptive.

I've tried everything mentioned on my previous post. All gears go in smoothly except 4th will not stay put. :x
I need help as this is getting very aggravating especially after sending so much $$$ on this trans.
As always, any help is appreciated. Thx |

The only adjustment is internal and will require you to tear down the trans. If you've already changed your coupler and bushing and adjusted the shift plate as best as you can, that's about it. Often a popping out problem is related to a worn gear hub on the affected gear and/or the slider gear. This should have been fixed when you got your transmission rebuilt. Either by removing the worn teeth on the hub or a new gear/hub. If the slider is worn, it can be remachined (Longenterprises does this), or a good one swapped in. You'd need access to a small (mayber 10 ton) press to do this.
To try and do the adjustment yourself would mean you need to either get a pre-fabricated jig, or cut up another transmission case to use as a jig (you need to be able to see inside to do this. The shift fork SHOULD have been adjusted right when the rebuild was done, no press is required for this. I have pictures of these steps if you need them. PM me. |

| i read some where that you could holesaw an axcess hole in your case in the right spot to make a adjustment when its put togather and use one of them expandable rubber plugs to fill the hole. They claim the few mag shavings would not hurt anything if you changed the oil after running it a short while. |

BajaBoy7 : that only works easily for the 1-2 gears. That's because 3-4 is deeper in and the nut is very near the edge of the housing.
volken65 : I wish I could help you, but I'm in Singapore and that's a long way away. Best for you to look for a nearby trans specialist and have them help you. Sucks when your builder goes MIA. |

No adjusting anything after it is together. Either it performs perfectly or doesn't after the build.
That is too bad though. Shops go under in a moments notice these days.
You just don't know from this day to next. |
