I have got a vw manx which has a type 3 front end. The master cylinder went out so i tryed finding a type 3 master but they were around 300 dollars. I put a type 1 master on it and lengthened my pushrod to make it work(the freeplay is good). the problem is when i hit the brakes, the pressure dousnt fully release for about 20 seconds. Is there a special valve i am supposed to have with type 3 discs? The master looks the same as the old one except the line ports are on top of the master instead of the bottom.

how are the condition of the rubber flex hoses? Could be they are starting to collapse internally and not letting the fluid return.

Is there a way to modify a type 1 master cylinder and take out the residual pressure valve?

If they are the external type (large fitting between the master and the line) then you may be able to remove them and either bend or replace the hard lines to reach the master directly. Not sure if the threads are identical, though. Please post a pic.
20 are the residual pressure valves required for drums, not wanted for discs:
