Tomorrow, 11/9/08, I am getting my new Thing top installed. On the top of the window frame, running across the front, is a mysterious bracket. It is riveted onto the window frame. See pictures. Will this thing be in the way when the top is attached, or keep me from getting the top properly attached? If so, I need to rip it off. There is about 1/4 inch of space between the bracket and top of the frame. And is that snap button necessary? Any ideas what it is for? Whatever you guys and gals can offer would be appreciated. BTW: We got this car for my son and we are having so much fun getting it prepped and ready to drive. Have done a few mechanical things and are now moving to cosmetics. What a fun vehicle!

It's probably a bracket for some custom top. The snap was probably part of that custom top as well - it's not needed for the stock top.
That rail may interfere with the stock top - it'll be close. The front lip of the header bow extends about 1/4 inch over the metal on the front of the windshield frame. Looking closer, I think it will interfere, but I could easily be wrong. |

I don't think it's gonna clear. |

Hey I think that the bracket is a stock item. My Thing is a stock thing and has never been painted and I have the bracket on mine and it looks like yours but looks like someone put yours on backwards and shortened it. Correct me if I am wrong. Just throwing this out there cause it looked similar, but maybe it was put on later too. I have the stock top and it covers the bracket fine and no leaks. Here are some pics on my windshield frame.
