I have a 1961 Sunroof and wanted to go as original as possible. I know from my VIN# that it was built in august, which means the OG color was black, anthracite, ruby red, or gulf blue. I know that if i get the Birth Certificate (sorta a pain) i could find out that way. I was curious if there is any other way to get OG paint codes for a particular VIN number and maybe M codes to without having to contact the fatherland and get the birth cert....

August of what - 1960 or 1961?

Why do you think that getting a Birth Certificate is a pain? Have you ordered one before?

There are plenty of posts on BCs. Check them out and order one. Let them tell you what the records indicate your car should be. If you disagree, or have questions, post the BC info and your concerns and we will be happy to chime in.

The OG color of any bug should be very easy to figure out- as seldom did any previous painter completely change the color behind the engine tarboards, under the wiper motor in the cowl, the underside of the glovebox strap, etc. '60 and '61 colors were very distinct- apart from a couple of the blue hues blues... sorry.

The BC is a great document to have anyway- regardless of any OG equipment-listing goal. It's also nice to know where your car was originally shipped. When all other docs have long dissappeared- the BC is the ONE doc. with which you can begin to undo the crimes of the past... brad

The B.C. will be the best answer bar none. There is no pain involved. I ordered mine Oct 2, they sent it out on Nov 4th, and I got it on the 7th! I didn't need mine for color reference, as much as I was wanting to know what State it was shipped? They don't tell you that anymore, just the country of orgin?
