Hi All,
I just finished pressing new upper control arm bushings into place. I had to grind off a tack weld to remove the old ones. Do I need to weld the new ones, or is the press fit sufficient for further re-assembly?
Thanks |

| Mine were not welded in, just pressed out and pressed in. Hasn't been driven yet though. I have heard of both situations, I think it depends upon how tight the press in's were. |

Thanks. That's all I needed to know. Good fit, snug and clean on the press.
I'm gonna roll with it. |

| I can imagine. What's your opinion? I have the control arm back in, but not tight yet. |

I'm with ice on this.
I would tack my own because it's easy; I have a welder. If I didn't I would let the fit determine. |

| I have never tacked any of mine and have never had any issues because of it. Your results may vary! |

It's back together.
I marked the outboard side of the axle and noted the position of the allen wrench relative to level before I removed the control arm. I re-assembled it with everythig in the same position with the assumption that if it went back the same way, at least my alignment won't be any worse than before I started.
I'm glad that there is a healthy discourse on the weld/not weld question. It doesn't sound like it's set in stone.
Thanks for weighing in.
I'm going for a test drive. |
