Some pictures of what seems to be new VW vans. I don't know too much information about them, but the photos were taken back in September '08 at a Los Angeles shipping/receiving area. Maybe for first tests, evaluations, etc???
Anybody out there know of or have seen these vehicles on the road?

The black(?) one in the foreground is a Multivan/Transporter/Caravelle/Eurovan. The other vans are Crafters.

None of them are for sale in the USA, but they are sold in Mexico, which is probably where they were headed.

Nice work kamzcab86!
I take it then, that these "Crafter Kombis" weren't made in Mexico. It must mean they are manufactured in Germany/Europe???
Wow! Interesting... |

The VW Crafter is actually a reskinned Sprinter made by Mercedes.
Just like the Routan is actually a reskinned Chysler minivan.
The Gemans need to build the Crafter, Caddy and Transporter in Mexico, or here in the US.
VW actually has a pretty stong comercial line up,
but due to 25% US tarrifs, they are priced out of the market if imported from Europe.

A little more info on the Crafter from:
http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=2833921
VW and DCX developed the previous LT and Sprinter models together for cost savings for both companies.
The LT and Sprinter had different engines and transmissions,
this time round the Crafter has the old Shiftmatic gearbox from Sprinter Gen 1 and a Common Rail diesel derived from VW's 2.5 Turbo Diesel range.
Mercedes-Benz use new gearbox system and common rail diesel engines from Mercedes-Benz range.
Both vans were designed in Daimler-Chrysler Van Technology Centre in Stuttgart and are both built in Mercedes-Benz plant in Ludwigsfelde.
They should make them in Mexico, and pimp them up like this concept van.
