| I found a '74 transporter for sale. It's missing the engine and tranny but otherwise pretty much all there. No title, but the exhaust is there and a new rear corner patch panel it's suposedly fairly solid. It can be delivered to me for $65 What should I offer for the whole thing? I would most likely part it out. Is there money t be made on the glass, seats, dash parts, etc? |

| Your answer is in the classifieds section...part by part. |

| So if I can get it for $100 plus the $65-70 to have it delivered for a total Of $170 maximum invested could I make $100-200? If so I would be happy with that. |

| If its a clean bus that is reasonably restorable then please let someone restore it. You will make little by parting out a bus that is missing an engine and tranny already. Most parts have very little value. |

Seriously -- try to get a title for it, and either sell it as a project (just add drive train) or get it running yourself. But don't send it to the crusher. |

There are several ways to look at this. For everyone that goes to the crusher there is fewer in need of parts, there fore less parts will be made and fewer vendors will be able to make a business selling them. That is bad for everyone in my book. I would rather see another 10,000 on the road than one less. |

| I suppose it would be possible to take the 6 rib trans and 2.0 out of the '79 westy I have and put it in this bus if it's in good enough condition. The only problem would be the title. I do have the title for the '79 so could I put the '79 vin number on the '74 and use that title? Would it matter that it's says it's a camper on the title? otherwise it would be a pain to get a title. |

| But who would as long as the engine and vin number on the dash matches the number on the title? And I throw the old liscense plate's that were on the '79 on the '74? really how would anyone know they were switched. I know it's not legal to do but i'm sure it happens all the time and no one finds out. A couple of the guys in our vw club said all they do is get a title from a parts car thats the same year and no one ever knows. If I do get it and it's in solid enough condition I think i'll switch the tranny, axles, engine and any other parts it needs from the '79 to this bus and make it a parts hauler/ winter car. Also for the engine to work in the '74 all I have to do is pull all the fi stuff off and put dual carbs on right? |

everyone here on the samba would know
could you not get a bonded title for the 74? the way it's been described to me it's fairly easy...then again i didn't look at your location so you might be somewhere where it's difficult |

the last 74 bus i got for parts was complete with low mileage VW exchange 1800 engine and auto tranny. drove great. it was free including delivery.
i didn't post on the samba asking if this was a good deal and should i go for it. |

If your morals involve breaking the law just because no one will find out, maybe you need to leave modern society.
Let me know when you are done with the swap because I will call the cops. They will check all the VIN locations, not just the dash. |

| Well then this bus will go to the crusher if I get it unless someone is interested in buying it. Because in minnesota I think it's fairly hard to get a title. |
