View original topic: Is this Carb missing its vacumn fitting?

Or is it located somewhere else on this particular carb?
Or is there another way to hookup the vacumn?

Sorry, I fixed the subject, Realy tired. :?

Yes, it's missing. The boss is there, above and to the right of the volume screw.

How is that repaired? Epoxy in a new fitting or soldering in a new one? Depending on if its broke off or pulled out I guess.

It's a press fit. Inserting a tube in there and tapping it in is about all you should have to do. FINDING the right size.. now... that is likely to require salvaging a core to get one. They also have a restrictor to dampen the pulse signal and to reduce jerky motion of the advance.

That's interesting that the vacuum fitting is missing. I bought a Bocar carb that appears identical to that one, but it had the brass vacuum port in place.

What it did NOT have was the actual hole drilled into the throttle body. They FORGOT to drill the hole!

I wouldn't consider buying that carb unless they guarantied that hole for the vacuum port was drilled and functional.

I wouldn't consider buying ANY Bocar 34PICT-3 unless you knew it was working.. and came from a reputable source.. like ME! :P

Seriously, Scott's right. Weird quality issues with these, like SLOPPY throttle shafts, crap in the circuits, blocked jets, etc.

To top it off that is a SUPER POS Bocar model... see those other two "weird" vacuum ports on it.... one where the drain bowl plug is and one on the right side where the idle pilot jet normally resides? :?

Something unique about that model and the Mexi configuration it was originally used on and they are no bueno por caca IMHO...

I thought that "BOCAR" was Spanish for "Sloppy Throttle Shaft".

And yes, it had a sloppy throttle shaft when it was new.

Add to that the float valve was leakier than one from a 30 year old German made 34PICT-3.

I found 30 year old German 34PICT-3 in my collection that had a tighter throttle shaft. I rebuilt it and used that instead.

Oh great! I was sold a new Bocar 34 PICT3 last weekend to install on my stock 1600DP. Is it normal to have to pump the gas pedal several times while turning over every time I start the car? Float is set and choke working. The local VW shop has been selling them for 20 years with good results. Car runs perfect when warmed up.

No its not normal, but it is not uncommon.

The choke may need adjustment. You should have to push the throttle open once to set the choke.
