My Replacement driver while fixing the bug lost it's water pump. The car a 92 Cabrio with A/C P/S and all the goodies .After losing the timing when the belt jumped because I had the tension on the wrong side of th ebelt before I cranked it over. Re did the timing and put it back together and out for a spin. Went back in the garage and was cleaning my tools as it idled to open the thermostat and looked under neath and the new pump is leaking. Against my better judgment I bought a Chinese pump(warranted for life) except my time to change it again.
I think I will go and buy a German and return the Chinese POS. HAs anyone else run a Chinese ,Cardone brand before with any luck. Mine so far has been all bad.

Never tried that brand, and probably would not either. However I did have less than great results with one German brand this last year. I put a Meyle brand pump onto a 98 Jetta (same pump as yours) and it started leaking and making noise about 8 or 9 months later. However I think I might have contributed to that because I reused the coolant (I ran it through a fine strainer, but still, I should have put fresh phosphate/silicate-free coolant in there) So I recently replaced that with a different brand pump, this time a German Hepu brand (which is what I got when I ordered the complete pump from this page: http://www.germanautoparts.com/Volkswagen/Cabriolet/Cooling/163/1 ) as well as fresh Dex-cool anitfreeze. Beware of plastic impellers on some brands. Those both had metal impellers. GMB-Japan made pumps usually are decent quality too, but I've not seen a new one in quite some time to know if they still use a plastic impeller or not.
