I have a 1776, engle 110 "big valve heads" 40/35.5 I think. They say autolina and have single HD springs.A stock 34/3 carb and 009 unfortunatly. I had the headers on the original 1600 then put them on the 1776. I bought them before I knew anything about port velocity(learned here). They are Bugpack merged ceramic coated. I dont know the size off hand. I got zero low end grunt. My question is, would a restriction on the end of the stinger with the correct size opening help at all? Sorta how dirtbikes have a huge muffler/bladder with a little hole. I know the 34/3 is choking it right now, and the 009 isnt the best. I am on limited funds and this is my workmobile. I also wanted to put a SVDA which brings up another question. If I put on a SVDA would the vac signal be jacked up because of the tiny carb and bigger displacement? Would it be trying to advance prematurly. Sorry for the lengthy post. TIA..

Just a question, why did you put money into a 1776 and then throttle it with a tiny carb? Your longblock sounds good, you just need to finish it. Usually dual carbs and proper sized header are figured into the engine budget. I know your money is tight but if thats the case you would have been better off staying with your 1600 and putting Kadrons on. Your exhaust idea probably won't work. Just save your money, buy some dual carbs and the proper sized header. I'm guesing you have a 1 3/8" if it came off your 1600. You should run a 1 1/2" with those valves and cam. Then you'll have a sweet little motor!

Thanks. It always comes back to the carb :x My wifes g/f blew up my 1641. "I thought the little red light with a G wasnt gonna hurt a thing" she said  She drove it for 3 days like that  . I built a new engine slooooowly(lack of funds). By the time I got to carbs I HAD to get it going, Its my daily ride. Oh well maybe Santa will hook me up... How much should getting this 34/3 to play nice with my combo run if one had to guess. Thanks again.

Damn, sorry to hear about your engines demize! Rejetting the carb shouldn't be major bucks. Jets are $2 or $3 a piece. The wife's gf should fork over some dough towards a set of 40IDFs!

Yeah, some forgivness funds would be sweet. But alas, they are worse off than I. Hence the nice guy leting them borrow his bug(never again). The car supported 2 familys for 8 months, then died with a fight, I mean 3 days w/out a fanbelt  .. I guess dual kads are the cheaper route. I see some on here for 200 and under...I could buy jets, but would have to pay someone to do it. Im a carb retard...

Kadrons are nice. A lot of people bash them but I installed a set on my 1600 and they ran great. Kadrons, header, 009 and blue coil, Sig Erson 1.5:1 rockers. Got me thru high school and college with no problems.

I think the "performance" guys are getting to hung up on lost power.
In my guess your heads have stock ports , so even with the big valve there not going to flow much above stock (port is the restriction)
So you basically have a stock 1600 bumped up to 1776, loads of bus guys build this, has loads of low end TQ, great town driver and economical with no twin carb syncing to worry about
Seeing your on a budget just re jet the carb, it will be fine.
Twin carbs right now will just give a noob tuning nightmares, save that for when you have time for the bug to be one and off the road a lot. |
