View original topic: possible to bench test lifters?

I have my lifters out and the cam contact surfaces look just about perfect on all of them. At $20 each, I would prefer to reuse them. Is there any sort of test that can be run to determine if they are OK for reuse? There was some verbage in Bentley about checking to see if they are bled properly, but nothing about testing their function. Some of them I can compress with my thumb, others I can't. Everything I have read in my research indicated that the typical reason for replacement is that the lifter face becomes pitted/grooved/damaged. I don't see anything like this. By the way, other than some discoloration in a few spots on the lobes, the camshaft looks good. No pitting, grooves or visible damage to the surface.

Do you know what bore they came from? If you don't put them back in their previous location they will wear like crazy. Were they working okay when you took them out? If so they are okay to run again. If they were not pumping up correctly take each apart and clean and inspect carefully. Do just one at a time so that you can not accidentally swap any of the internal parts.
