I am installing new pistons and cylinders on a type 4 1700 cc engine.
The wrist pins seem awfully tight and are difficult to even tap out
in preparation to install on the rods. I dont want to damage anything
by hitting too hard with a brass drift.
Any suggestions?
thanks

| Try just warming the pistons up on a stove. Don't get nuts with the heat. Then try to tap them out. ( you did remove the circlips, right)???? |

I have that problem if I start assembling pistons/cylinders early in the morning when the shop hasn't warmed up.
Warm the pistons up a bit and I bet the pins slide right in. |

| I've removed the wrist pins from a 1300 T1 and a 2.0 liter T4, and I had to use some force when tapping them out. No sliding right in or out here. But I guess this is related to that both engines were dismantled in a cold concrete garage with no heating, in Norway  |

Not uncommon for used piston kits to have tight wrist pins on removal but new ones should slide in and out without too much resistance.
Unless it's cold.......... :D |
