Hi,
I've just gotten an 88 syncro doka and I'm wondering if VW ever offered a plastic or plastic coated fuel tank for these trucks. I'm somewhat surprised to find an insulating blanket wrapped around the fuel tank. This had me a bit worried about corrosion. Upon closer inspection the tank is a black PVC like material and the blanket seems to be fitted to the compound curves of the fuel tank very well as would be expected from a factory fit.
The 88 I've got was purchased new in Canada and apparently dealer maintained since new by its previous owner.

All the Syncros have a plastic tank from the factory. It was one of the first applications of such a tank.
