I have searched the forums about wipers and had a question.
On my 65 which has been converted to 12V, I guess I currently have a 6V wiper motor with a voltage drop, because when the car idles, the wipers slow down.
Well I have worn wiper posts, so I need to take the assembly out right now to fix it, and this is the perfect time to do any kinds of upgrades I could think of before reinstalling it.
So from what I have read, the 67 12V wiper motor bolts right up to the 65 wiper assembly? I have also read that the 67 wiper motor is a 2 speed motor, but can run just a single speed? I want to keep my original knob on the dash and dont think there is a way to modify the wiper knob to accept a 2 speed switch......
Is it really that simple to convert the 6V wiper motor over the 12V? If I am missing any steps or am wrong on any of the information, please let me know before I being to start working on it.
Thanks for all suggestions.

My 65 is 12volts and running the 67 two-speed motor. Bolted right in. Since it's a two speed I am running the two-speed switch also. From the interior you'd never know. I'm one of those people that get confused by anything with more than two wires but was still able to wire things to work by following the wiring diagrams on the samba.

So does the '65 ivory hard plastic knob and squirt button fit the later '67 switch assembly?

mine does. unfortunately the squirter does not work, but that's because of other issues and not the switch.

so the motor bolts right up to a 66 and earlier assembly? if so, awesome.
ive heard that the knob fits right on, due to the 67 knobs having the same threads as the 66 and earliers.
my squirters dont work, and dont really need them all that much, if the button stays on that would be good for the looks.
and KTPhil, 65 was the first year of the silver beige knobs, 64 was the last year of ivory. |

you'll probably find everything you need to know by doing searches here at the samba. I seem to remember learning everything I needed that way. It's been a few years since I converted everything over.

I did a search, but some of the responses werent completely clear about what is needed to do.
If I read past one, please direct me to ones that will answer my questions.
Thanks.

Run a bus switch. Do a search for a two speed bus wiper switch. The knob is the same with the push button.

For a single speed 12v motor get a Volvo 245 rear wiper motor. It's basically a bolt in swap and is 12v. Even looks the same.
