Alright, here's the story thus far:
My fiancee is a roller derby chick. Next year, there is a big roller derby convention going on in Vegas from July 29th - Aug. 2nd. More info here: http://rollercon.net
The violinist for one of the bands I'm in is also a roller derby chick. Her and my fiancee and a few others were tossing around the idea of heading out there for a mini-vacation. Neither one of us is into the whole huge traditional wedding thing, so I suggested that maybe I could come along and we could get hitched while we were there. It kind of snowballed from there.
We were talking at band practice and the other guys said they were due for a fun road trip - thus the idea of getting a show in Vegas was born. My bass player said he would buy a van and haul out our equipment if we could get a show...so we did.

Cockleburr Slough, July 29th at the Double Down Saloon, 10pm. Come one, come all. I'll be the drunk newly married drummer. (<--my fiancee wanted me to add the married part.)

Ive since told several people about it and the number of midwesterners invading Vegas grows. So far the plan is to fly in on Monday the 27th, get married on the 28th, play the show on the 29th, stay drunk until Friday or Saturday, rack up huge amounts of credit card debt, and fly our tired asses back home.

Southwest has pretty good rates on flight/hotel packages, and I think we'll stay at the MGM. I've been to Vegas once before and had a blast.

So that's it. The only thing I'm looking for info on is a decent (read: cheap) chapel that can hold 10-20 people, or any other affordable wedding ideas. I doubt we'll get much (if any) money from the father of the bride, as he's opposed to anything other than a proper Christian wedding. Screw that, I'm getting drunk!! (And a lap dance at Glitter Gulch!!)

Glitter Gulch? Come on man . . . seriously.

There's a few "no appointment" chapels around fremont street and towards the south end of the strip. Shouldn't cost too much. Might be a little line, but usually those joints don't have more than a 45 min wait. In, out, done.

Double Down can get pretty hectic (read: full of drunk people who look like they just got married) but i'm glad you pointed out drumming.

There's a few guys around here always looking for ways to get out of the house. I'll see if I can drag a few of them up there.

Remember: What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. I hear there's a Realtor there named Growler who can find you two a house.

Some of those Derby Chicks look like they could pick up and break any guy in half with little to no effort! Some are scary tattooed and tough looking dudes....errr....chicks.

I know like in pro "wrestling" image is everything in this "sport".

My husband and I have been married almost 6 months, and it is great!! I am sure you will enjoy married life. Dont stay to drunk on the honeymoon/show. Have a lot of fun!!

I'd encourage any people that live in Vegas to see one of the bouts at rollercon next year...it's fun to watch a bunch of ladies beat the crap out of each other on skates. My fiancee used to bout until she broke her wrist; she even had wrist guards on.
