| i have had plenty of beetles and even a few fat chick buses but never a splitty. i have done some research on this site and also on dropgates but am still unable to determine the year of the bus i just aquired a few weeks ago. i have been told the number behind the passanger seat is not the vin number . mine starts with the numbers 269***. unfortunatley with east coast rust i cant really tell from the vin plate in the engine compartment. (any way to clean those with out f-ing them up?)it is a 15 window deluxe red/brown with pressed bumpers front and rear. i would appreciate any help i can get , unfortunatley the owner who has about fifteen buses sittin at their property (many for sale) does not have the title to this particular one. :x i am sorry if this has been answered before but i had no luck with the search function....so please oldtimers dont flame me too hard. |

Start sanding and look here
If your body # behind the front seat is 269*** then the VIN # is probably 20-25,000 higher than that.
Your Bus is a '58 in that case, built in late '57, probably October, 1957. |

| thank you everett will check for that in the morning i couldnt see that under the vin plate so i will break out the sand paper in the a.m. |
