so i bought a class 5 open baja bug with a 2276. it was set up with a singe 44 and only made 85hp and 140ft. being dissapointed i decided to rebuild it. i currently have this as my set-up.
82 scat crank, 94b's, scat i-beam rods, cb 044 cnc ultra mags, 44x37v, chromoly retainers, dual 48idf's, ump air cleaner system, chromoly push rods, and im running power steering. now im gonna be running at 100 plus deg weather at times and holding rpm's at 4-5k rpm constantly. i dont think im gonna be going over 6500rpm and this brings me to my dilema...i dont know what cam to chose, lifters(thinking of scats lube-a-lobe), rockers, and most important compression. i was leaning towards the vz-30 but the w-120 and w-125 are also possibilities... i want to be able to run on 91 so i was thinking bout 9.0:1-9.5:1? and is it bad to try and run zero deck height? i heard it was better to have all the combustion take place in the heads.
ANY ADVISE WOULD BE GREAT AND HELP ME SLEEP AT NIGHT!!!!

You need to do some searching and reading of the forums.

Scat kube a lobe have a bad rep for flattening cams.

0 deck wont work shoot for 0.050

I wont guess on the cam as baja's need TQ and most people (including me) would give a recommendation that was more suited to the street.

I think you need to locate some fellow baja racers.

A VZ 25 Cam will give more than enough torque, using stock lifters, stock rockers on solid shafts, w/ lash caps.

If you wanna run 91 octane shoot for around 020 deck w/ (I think CB's are this) 58cc chambers, and you should have a good hardy 11.5:1 compression, which will be fine for the woods, dirt sand any of that shit, I have 5 years expeience with high compression motors, thats all I build, they start right up on first bump, and run just as good as a 9:1 motor.

Oh, I run 9.6:1 on my 1776 in my fasty, on 87, and it doesn't detonate at all, 11-12:1 would be perfect for premium.

I just built a Class 12 1835cc type one for a race car (BAJA 1000) 2 seater.

11:1 compression, 42x37 valves and a Single HPMX Empi 44, 127HP@ 5800rpm, and 137 lbtq @4000rpm

.040 deck
runs very well, ran cool on the dyno.

I had the cam built, 500 lift, 270@50, 105LC, Its like a chainsaw

who makes the 105lc? i used to run a fk8 in our 12 car but ti couldnt pull past 5k. thanks guys for your help! so 11.1:1 isnt too high?

With that set up run a 130 gobs of torque and she will pull to 6000

so im most likely gonna go with the race lifters from cb perf. and have a custom cam ground. also try to shoot for 9.1-9.5:1. thats for all the feed back! and thanks for the info on the scat lube-a-lobes! saved my ass for sure
