It's been in the classifieds for a while. I am thinking of getting it from the guy.
Has anyone seen it in person?
I am not wanting a glamor queen. Don't even want to restore it... Not yet anyway.
Looking for a hood ride. Fix the esentials, motor, brakes, floor rust, etc. and Rock it.
What do you guys think?

Well the price is rite.
HE sent some pics and the front floor pan is rusted out, both dog legs are poor, both rockers are there but look toast and the bottom of the pass door.
Everything else looks good but covered in surface rust.
What can I expect to pay for the repair panels? Refitting and welding them in is no problem.
Somethin about this bus is calling to me. I really like the 3-4 layer of 20+ year old beat paint.
I even have a great name for it.
So seriously. If you were gonna talk someone out of it. Do it NOW!
I know some of you have fixed worse.
What am I thinking?? |

if it's cheap enough and you want it and have the skill to put it on the road, then buy it.
repair panels are not that expensive if you go through wolfsburg west. |

OK. Looks like $500 in metel. Prolly more but till the cutting begins who knows.
Is it safe to say the Purists won't mind if this bus does not get a restore.?
Like I said before. I want a hood ride. At least for now. Seems like this bus fits.
Havn't hear anyone say it is a total POS. yet.
Come on guys. Should it be fixed or parted?
It's just calling to me. Save me Tony...... Am I crazy? Wait, Don't answer that. I am into VW's I must be crazy...... |

| Looks like the spare tire depression has been cut out of the bulkhead. Oh, and it looks like a smurf exploded in the cab. Painted steering wheels and dashes gross me out. Even so, it looks like a buildable bus. |

| It could be worse and it has potential. I think it needs your love. Something is koo-koo with the bulkhead as you can't run plywood straight across the spare tire-well unless it's an optical illusion. Bottom windshield rust and sides above engine hatch are crusty besides the regular stuff but the underside has good bones (from the pics). What is that hanging down in the place where the air cleaner should be? |

They're all fixable.
If the price is right then buy it.
Mine was a complete basket case when I bought it 5 years ago.
But the initial investment was very low.
I put it on the road 3 years ago and am just now about to start the welding on it.
Get it driving first, then do the body work, etc.

well, looks kinda like the buses out of Maple Valley.
I'd rather see that bus back on the road than parted out.
It does look pretty straight, and seems like the guy was asking a grand.
Yes the bulkhead has been at least partly hacked.... there is supposed to be a bulge for the spare tire, but it is straight up and down.
Dash doesn't look hacked, though.
That engine might even run, with some TLC
If this one ran, and it had sat for 15ish years, yours could.

I don't think anyone will throw bitch a roni at you if you don't restore it stock. |

I'd buy it just for the airscoops.
Go for it, but just realize getting into it you're going to have to spend another $1300 or so on brakes and new tires. Hopefully you can coax that engine back to life. Good luck and post pics of your progress.
I love threads like this. :)

| If you can get it for $200 bucks and have the mechanical knowledge to get it going then why not....It's going to cost you some $$$ just to get it road worthy...when I mean road worthy something you can drive daily and not worry about some dried up brake hose breaking...or the clutch cable snapping....or a wheel cylinder freezen up....seriously it's going to cost you some money to get it going....so consider it when you make him your offer... |

I know it is going to be alot of work but every ride I have ever built has been.
Jon (current owner) is going to see what he can do about bringing it to me. It's about 200 miles. Hope it all works out..
He told me that the bus has sat for 20+ years. And the previous owners painted an acid trip on the ceiling.
When I have it here I will post all my pics and progress in this thread.
Hood Ride is played out. I agree. Just a general term for a ratty pos. :D
So. Needs a name. I'm thinking. Ragina.
Ragina Patina
It's settled :D |
