| Hey guys, can I put a 34 pict 3 carb off the 1600 DP that I am rebuilding on a 1500 SP that is in my garage just so I can slap it in the car and drive it? Will it work at all, just temporarily? (I have the adapter plate) The 1500 does not have a carb on it. Thanks! |

| I bet it would work just fine. |

| So, how do you plan on making the 30-on-a-34 manifold adapter work to go the other way around? (I've never seen an adapter that goes the other way) |

| hmmm...good point. I just assumed I could flip it and be good to go, maybe I could press out the studs and fit new ones in so it would be "flipped"? i don't know, maybe it's just too much trouble. Any one have any other ideas? Thanks! |

That's what I was thinking... the adaptor commonly used on the H 30/31 to mate it to the DP manifold does just "flip over" for use the opposite way.
Get ahold of a 30 series carb  |

| I wasn't sure how well such an adapter would work the other way around - you'd have to do a little bit of creative reworking of it get it on there. I suppose if you had got a 2 second set of those thin-flanged-head Allen-head bolts and you carefully drilled out the threaded holes in the adapter and enlarged those holes enough for the heads of those Allen bolts to pass through, and then you might have to glue the ones that will now point down through the adapter through the manifold with JB-Weld as well. |

Sure sounds like a PIA to fit the wrong carb to an engine :P
I have seen this hack job a few times... cut the holes in the intake into "slots" with a hacksaw... then the larger 34 bolt pattern fits the intake
If your in need of a carb that fits contact me maybe I can work out some thing for you if you want to trade the 34 and some coin for a rebuilt 30 series that will work for your needs. |

ok, i see....and i agree, big pita to fit the wrong carb. I just would like to stick the 1500 SP in the car (its a good motor, just missing a carb) so I can drive the car while I rebuild the the lower end on the 1600 DP that came out of the car.
I'm an idiot....easy solution...bolt up the DP heads from the 1600 and use my DP intake and good 34-3 carb.
Sorry for making it so difficult, and thanks for straightening me out! |

| true, but....i'm forbidden to spend any "unneccesary" money on the vw's now. I'm replacing the heads on the 1600 rebuild anyway, and the 34 carb is brand new, and i plan to use it after the rebuild, so its an efficient way for me to get some seat time in my car! Thanks though... |
