| I have a 72 bug that i bought for really cheap. its pretty beat and its pretty ugly. i bought it for the pan and to use as a daily driver until i got all the parts i needed to drop the 65 body i have onto the pan. anyway. i got bored and stupid one day and took it to the local off-road area that consists of a bunch of hills and things and i was taking it up hills and just messing around. being amazed with how it handled the hills, i tried the steepest one. Didnt really notice that it was really loose and i was soon buried in about 2 feet of really fine silt like dirt. i started to let it roll back down and once it got going it wouldnt really slow down but it was a straight shot to an empty dirt area. low and behold i hit something with the back end and we pop over it and keep rolling. right then the bug dies. i start it back up and pull it out to the road and parked and it died again. i get out and look at the back and notice that my pipes had moved up a bit and bent the hell out of my rear apron... i go back to the hill and find a log buried under about 8 inches of dust and dirt. I havent gotten the time to clear out the room in my new garage to take much of a look at the car. I guess i just want to know what to expect when i do. could bending the pipes cause the back pressure to get to high and kill it at an idol? or is it something much more sinister? no oil leaking or anything. runs a little sluggish when at low rpms but seems fine while cruising. any ideas what could be wrong? |

| Is there a bunch of dirt in the pipes plugging them up, or are the air cleaners really dirty from the off-roading session? |

If you plug up the exhaust or pinch off the tailpipes the car will not idle and will run like hell if at all. Assume you need a new muffler now.
Don't break off the studs, use PB Blaster liberally and crack the nuts open with a cold chisel 1st |

the moral here is, as fun is at may be dont wheel a stock bug thats not to say i havent done anything stupid. buy a header for it now. if you want to wheel it lift the torsion bars you dont even have to put on a baja kit
sounds like your on a budjet and lifting torsion bars is free :D bugs make surprisingly capable offroad machines |
