P0422 reads : Catalyst System Low Efficiency Bank 1. The rear O2 Sensors compare the data with the front O2 Sensors and have figured out the catalytic converter is no longer doing a efficient job. The most common fix for this problem is to simply replace the Catalytic Converter. There is the off chance the rear O2 Sensor is failing to read correctly.

| Ah, what does that mean? |

| Well, probably that your catalytic converter may be wearing out and you have some kind of an issue in the hoses/valves that vent the gas tank into the engine's air intake system. |

The cat is like 6 months old. I called tt and they said that one of the codes sounds like the cat, but in combination with the other one it could more likely be an 02 sensor. Also there may be a bigger issue with the motor not fireing properly, and a bunch of soot in the exhaust.
I don't know if I am spelling it right? |

| Ah well, that could very well be. Didn't know you had a new cat on there. Error codes are just general, after all, to help point you in the direction of problems... |

| Stupid emition standards, my 73 baja doesn't have a computer and I know exactly what is wrong when it has a problem. They should just tell you what sensor is reading off and then let you make an educated decision. That would be more helpfull........................ |

| What vehicle is this? You said the cat was replaced. Some aftermarket cats are junk. Also it could be that the computer needs to be reprogrammed to widen the parameters. As far as the evap code, it could be a loose gas cap or possibly the purge solenoid is bad or leaking hoses. |

1997 VW GTI VR6
It is a Techtonics High Flow cat and I talked to them today about it they say they haven't had any problems with mkIII vr6's. They say it doesn't need to be reprogramed because I have a tt chip... |
