I have a 65 bug and recently I learned that 66 and earlier bugs had pull switches to engage the wipers.
Well mine has a turn knob. I was told that the turn (or twist however you would describe it) knobs were for the 67 12V two speed wipers.
Well mine has the 5 prongs on the back of the switch, where as the 6v pull switches are supposed to have 3. But my switch only turns one click to the right. No matter how hard I try to twist it, it wont go to another click, in which I was told to try.
Any thoughts on that?

What kind of switch is it? Does it have the button in the middle for the windshield sprayer like this one:
Or is it a plain knob? The 1961 switch was a plain twist knob, that had a giant rubber bulb on the backside of it that would physically pump/spray washer fluid onto the window as you pulled the knob in/out.
I can't remember if the 60/earlier switches were twist or pull, but if you had one of them, it would be equipped with screw-terminals, not push-on slide connections.

My last '63 had a turn switch, and I'm pretty sure the two switches out in the garage for the current '63 are turn as well. I've never heard of a wiper switch being the pull out type.
What's the part number on the switch. What are the terminal #'s? |

maybe some replacment switches are rotary and not pull-out. But I now that on my 62, it was a pull switch before I changed it to a 2speed switch!
And even the 1966 manual says it was a pull switch:
And, while I'm at it, here's the 1961-only type wiper switch instructions from the Owner's Manual:

Andy, mine is similar looking to the main first picture you posted. It has the push button for the washer (that currently doesnt work).
It twists one click to the right to switch the wipers on, but it doesnt pull for the squirters to engage, you just push the button. I have tried to pull on it, but I do not wanna break it.
I am planning on installing a 67 12V switch and a 2 speed wiper motor for better wipers when taking the bug snowboarding, I am simply trying to figure out what kinda switch it is.
Because a friend of mine said the 67 was the first year with 5 prongs on the backside but was the only year that the old knobs fit. Maybe I will take a picture of the switch and put it on here........now to figure out how to post pictures..... |

replacement switches are rotary. 1 speed. 1967 is first year for factory installed rotary switch. look at numbers in 67 wiring diagram and see if you have all numbers matching . knobs from 1952--on will screw on fat chick switches .. too many guesses and not enough knowledge in this thread. :( |
