So I used "search" and was unlucky as to knowing what to search for. I am trying to get my rear seat back installed and running into a few problems.
First the seat doesn't "bolt" in. There is a funny looking rod sticking out the passenger side that the seat just rests on. Figured this was wrong. I just don't know. Thought there was some kind of a bolt or something. Anyways, this rod is missing from the driver's side.
Second. There are 2 sets of holes on each side. A Upper and a lower set. The seat is not side enough to bolt into the lower pair. Would I use bolts and fasten the seat to the upper pair or use these "rods"??
Hopefully I can get some pics up this weekend about what I am referring to. Thanks for anyhelp you all can offer! |

what year? Super or Standard?
I have tinkered on a '66, 67, 68, 70, 73, and 74 standards over the years, they all bolted in. One bolt to each side, that allows it to fold down. A third or fouth bolt would not allow it to pivot.
If I remember correctly, there are some plastic bushings that go over the bolts. It has been a few years since the last R & R of a seatback. |

| The seat bolts in on both sides at the bottom and pivots there. The rod on the top side of the seat rests over the rotating clip which holds or releases the seat so it can fold down. |

Hi all,
Here's a couple of pics of my '73. As far as I am aware, this is how it left the factory (apart from the plastic washer, which yours truly found under the seat and put on the wrong side of the pivot), as it was a complete, original, one-owner car.
The right-hand side has what amounts to a M8 bolt with a small (10mm, I think) head. You screw the bolt in, then slide the backrest pivot over it:
The left-hand side has one of these bolts, which secures the backrest:
This arrangement means you only have to hold the seat back in position and fiddle with the bolt on one side, as the other is located already.
When you say there's an upper and lower set of holes, are you thinking of the seatbelt mounts?
Regards,
Michael
Edit: Thinking about it, I could well be missing a washer for the right-hand side - I only found one and for some reason it never occurred to me that there might have been two!
Edit 2: Got my left and right mixed up on the second picture - corrected now  ! |

| Like the previous post states the seat rests on that "rod" and a bolt and washer go in the other side. If you have 2 holes lower than that you most likely don't have rear seat belts installed currently. I'm pretty sure my car has 2 washers (1 on either side, but I believe they go between the seat and body, I'll go double check when I get home) |
