Can a stock thermostat be used with "cool tins" bottom shrouds? Or will they have to be modified? Or won't it fit at all? I would like to use cool tins on my type 1 engine, but I also would like to retain my fan shroud flaps and thermostat, as I live in a cooler climate.

Type 1 uses type 1 air diverter plates under the cylinders not type 3.
"Super Cool Tins" are a gimmick when it comes to a type 1, don't expect any improvement in engine cooling or efficiency, maybe expect a loss.
If using type 1 shrouding use the type 1 plates and move on.
More info here, this has been covered before:

| A Type 1 thermostat does not interfere with Type 3 cool tins. Do whatever you want. |

Type 3 tins cover the cylinders. The thermostat rod goes through the head, not the cylinders.
Type 3 tins belong on Type 3s not Type 1s. If they were better the factory would of used them. |
